The music with all best musicians like Duke, Albright etc. is really very "funk" and good. But the recording quality is very very bad. I am an audiophil, who is hearing jazz, but this CD is really very low-end.
Ahhh, yes. I am enjoying this CD very much, as it brings all the fun back into my day, because I can remember the funky sounds of the seventies without having to relive the same ol' tunes. Funk is back, and B.C. has just what it takes to bring it. Brian Culbertson obviously knows his stuff, and, if you like jazz and a funky beat, you are going to experience the FUN in FUNK -- just as it should be experienced, new and improved sounds for the new millennium. Funk on.
It sounds like they've been playing together for years. A great throwback to my days in High School jazz band. This album is very tight. But the main reason I love this album is that it introduced me to the genius of Gerald Albright on Hollywood Swinging. He is just incredible on sax, and it shows the level of talent that contributed to this album.
Once again, Brian delivers in true style. This collaboration will reflect sounds of the past masterfully blended with today. You'll be playing this one over and over again. Do I hear "road trip" anyone.
We loved the guest appearances of Funk legends, especially Boosy Collins, and we would definitely recommend this compilation to our friends or even give as a gift during the holidays. There are not many CD's that my husband and I both enjoy, but this is one of the few. My husband loves Funk and I love Smooth Jazz, and I found this CD to be a unique combination of the two. But word to the wise, if you don't like Funk, don't buy anything with Funk in the title. Yaba dabba doo baby.
